Found spam? Report it!

This is terrible. Now there are more than a dozen of new spams each day in a thread like Ascent Capture General discussion. This will have a very negative impact on serious usage.

As any system, a forum needs not only clever protection but also daily operations.

An old idea I have had is that a few people (not necessarily including me) could be allowed to work as volunteer moderators with a limited level of administrative forum permissions here in the public forums.
I guess a something like 3 or 4 persons would be a minimum critical mass to have something like this up and going. As it happens, I can think of three or four candidates that are veteran forum dwellers and thus has a good sense of the forum goals and directions.
Poor netiquette is a breeding ground for more serious problems. And volunteer forum moderators or administrators will take some of the minor problems from the shoulders of the Kofax main administrators; these can hopefully focus even more on more serious issues and/or issues that need proper authority anyway.

Have only discussed this very briefly, but perhaps it is high time to introduce this. Defence in depth is the way to go and the human factor is potentially a both effective and nice complement to mechanical factors.

how about a more manual way of approving users? this should cut down on most of the spam.

Perhaps. But I wonder what the Kofax people would say. It would increase workload for someone of them.

What I wonder about it all those exiting mods for phpBB. There seem to be all kinds of anti spam-bot mods, anti spam-registration mods...
By making robot registration much harder, spam would decrease.

One thing is for sure, things need to be done on several layers, not only in one layer.

this is getting out of control. is anyone doing anything about it?

there's at least 1-2 every hour.

maybe upgrading to a later version of phpbb or adding a better captcha module will help with spam?

The last "thanks" in this thread was back in October. What's going on?

I was deleting it, but that's not a solution. I opened a ticket regarding this spam issue, lets hope someone takes care.

It seems to me that a lion’s share of recent spam has a give away pattern when it comes to words in the titles.
I understand that it is a bit late in the process, but would it be possible to filter new posts on these words in the titles?

I alse wonder if it would be possible to create a honey pot to fool some of the spam bots; the bots that are not stopped create spam, but it is created in an area that does not matter.

All that spam may scare off new forum visitors.

yeah, unfortunately, I tried to contact kofax and their response is to just report it to this thread.

I'd compare it to spam in email. do you just continue to report it to the email admin or do you use better technology, like (better captcha for signing up in forums) to prevent spam?

You can always set it to manually approve new members. Verify the vendor/customer company name as being registered.

I delete as well regularly when I am in the office. But travel interferes with this. I had opened a ticked myself.
