Standard Evaluator - Best of option

Standard Evaluator - Best of option

Postby twildt » Tue Mar 03, 2015 12:08 pm

I noticed all the index fields have a standard evaluator with 1 format locator assigned to them in my project.

I was wondering why there is a standard evaluator assigned when it only has 1 locator assigned.

My understanding was that you have to have 2 or more locators assigned to a standard evaluator to bring back the "Best of" result. Otherwise it only brings back the best value of the 1 locator.

But.......

My understanding of a format locator was that it will evaluate its best confident values itself and use them not needing a standard evaluator to do this for it.

Here is what the help file states about the "Best of" option for standard evaluator. Am I correct or incorrect?

Best of Evaluation
In a Best Of evaluation, the Standard Evaluator returns the most confident alternatives across all locators.

I'll guess and say that the developer did that to make it easier to incorporate other locators in the future (such as form based locators) without having to re-point each field.

Yes, it's probably just another layer of abstraction. I wonder whether performance is impacted, though.

With all the other stuff going on (like OCR), I can't imagine that the impact is significant. It doesn't strike me as a intensive task.
