Could it work (without thresholding) on bitonal images

This module seems like an excellent idea. It will definately add value to clients who cannot use VRS at scan time.

However it could it be extended to work with bitonalised images?

I'm aware that main value of VRS is its clever thresholding when bitonalising an image. This functionality is simply technically impossible on images that are already bitonial.

However would be good if we could try to use some of the other functionality (black border removal, deskewing etcs) on faxes and other bitionalised images. I would be interested to find out whether this could be or is being investigated.

I think AIPE does what you are asking for?

However I was unaware that AIPE could be used in production without a scanner. I would be grateful if you could let me know how it could be used to modify previously generated images sitting in a watch folder.

Hi Paul,

You simply use an "Import Source" with Image Processing and then chose an Image Cleanup profile that uses whatever processing you need if you use Ascent Capture.

If you do not use AC but use another ImageControls based scanning/import software then you need to make sure the developer applied Image Processing into the code somewhere.

I was able to perform Auto Orientation on a bitonal image, but I doubt that the other functions that require thresholding will work.

I will post if I find other functions that work with bitonal.
