Multiple Server Configuration

Multiple Server Configuration

Could someone explain where this is set?

I have inherited an Ascent Capture installation. We have four servers: ACIS, Capture, PDF and Release. PDF and Release run the PDF, OCR Recognition and Release queues as services as well as the AC service.

How does the Capture box know that these servers are looking after those queues? When I look at their setup it says they are run on the Central Site.

Is there a config file somewhere on Capture that lists the servers it should be using for these services?

what version do you have?

if 7.5, they have batch notification and each server gets a notification that there is a batch ready to process. If not 7.5, then they poll by default every 60 seconds to see if there is a batch ready to process.

Unforutanately, there's no config file to tell us which workstation is running which module. This is a nice to have.

Technically, PDF and Release is not a "server". It is a client process. Unless the other clients have been crippled or limited though their logins, those processes could run on any machine.

But the process can be run as service and run on a dedicated machine. The service/process simply scans the batches and if it finds one that's ready, it will pick it up and run with it. PDF, OCR Recognition and Release are each separate processes call kfxPdf.exe, Ocr.exe, Fp.exe and Release.exe.

So to answer your question, any machine that runs kfxpdf.exe will process PDFs, etc. It's not really a feature of Ascent itself that decides where it's run.
