Document Separater Sheets Not Recognized

Document Separater Sheets Not Recognized

Postby pgmr1998 » Thu Oct 27, 2011 12:34 pm

Document seperator sheets are not being detected and becomes a page in the document when we set our scanner to use Color Mode. If more than one document is scanned at one time, each one separated with a document separater page, only the first separater page is picked up. So, even though multiple documents were scanned, we end up with just one big document, with the other seperator pages appearing as normal pages within the document.. If we reset out Color Mode to Black & White, this does not happen. Is there a way around this?

if you are not using VRS or SVRS, adjust the brightness & contrast from: Scan - Properties - Advanced. Potentially go from there into "more" and adjust gamma if that doesn't work 100%. If you do have VRS, adjust the default settings slightly off the middle to see if you get different results.

That's normal. When it passes though Recognition, then it will separate.

I'm guessing it does that because trying to detect them in "real time" is too CPU intensive when running high speed scanners.

Document seperator sheets only work in Black/White mode, the best option is to enable Colour Detection in VRS and have it set fairly high (over 90%) or as Russel said ad recognition to your batch and let separation happen their

not true at all. We use custom separator sheets with a patch code at the top and some barcodes below for index values and it separates just fine in full color scanning. I'm using Kofax Capture 9.x and a Fujitsu 6770 with SVRS enabled.

To make sure I wasn't crazy, I just ran a small batch through in full color. Four separators went in, four documents showed up in scan module.

If you're using the "Auto Color" feature in VRS, then it most likely will become Back and White, causing it to separate at scan time.

When you scan that way, are your patch code sheets being rendered in color, or black and white?

I am not using auto color in vrs (Enable Detection is not checked) and my separator sheets are in color.

Meaning that they render in color when you see them scanned?

I can only guess that this might be something specific to your scanner. It may have the hardware to detect it on the fly.

That's not the normal behavior of Kofax.

correct - they render in color. Don't know on the scanner although it did come with it's own version of VRS so maybe they did something in that.

It looks like that model scanner has the option for a VRS card - IOW, it's actually hardware VRS, not SVRS. (Although they install the same way and sometimes from the same media.)

I had never thought of it as hardware VRS b/c it's connected by USB but ...
http://www.fujitsu.com/us/services/comp ... -6770.html

from the "features" tab:
the fi-6770A model is one of the first in its class to offer hardware-assisted VRS CGA, and can actually scan even faster when utilizing certain advanced VRS imaging features

However, since we did not buy the add-in USB CGA card, I don't know how it could be utilizing those features...

Document seperator sheets only work in Black/White mode

This is based on using Kodak scanners of all models over the last 8 years did not expect other scanners to be different, will check this out further as at my current project they have a fujitsu fi6770 using USB

I've been using Bell & Howells (bought out by Kodak) and I don't get doc sep when I scan color, unless I'm using auto color.

I just tried a Canon DR-X10C. It behaves as I described the others - no doc sep in color unless auto-color kicks it to B/W.
