VRS 4.1 and Windows 7

VRS 4.1 and Windows 7

Postby michael.bullock » Mon Oct 25, 2010 9:40 am

I'm using Kofax VRS 4.1 with a Fujitsu F5120c scanner on Windows 7 64 bit. Are there any known problems between 4.1 and Win7? I can't make Kofax an option using Adobe 9 and the VRS demo keeps telling me that the scanner is in use by another application. When I hit the 'switch to' button, it just pops the start menu up. Any suggestions/help will be greatly appreciated.

I think VRS 4.1 is not supported on Windows 7 let alone the 64 bit version.

What are my alternatives? I'd rather not pay $349 per user (about 11 users) for the 4.2 upgrade. I've downloaded the 4.2 demo and it's working fine except for the 'Kofax Demo' stamp it puts on each document.

If you do not use the professional features (advanced clarity, auto rotate, blank page detection, auto color) then you can freely upgrade to 4.2 and even 4.5. This will be a Basic VRS so you'll get dynamic thresholding, auto deskew, auto crop.

Is the upgrade done through the software or a file download from the Kofax website?

Download latest VRS from Kofax's https://delivery.kofax.com (you need to have an account to access the site, but you can create one based on the Kofax licenses you have). Install VRS, then send me a PM with your e-mail, and I'll tell you the rest

VRS 4.5 SP1 is the only version of VRS that is certified for use with Windows 7. You can download the OEM version from Fujitsu's Web site. Your installation order will be:

1. PFU OEM VRS 4.5 (Software VRS which contains a Professional level OEM license for your 5120C)
2. The Windows 7 certified ISIS driver for the fi-5120C
3. SP1 for VRS 4.5 (available at kofax.com)
