Storage filter or file read failure occurred

Storage filter or file read failure occurred

Postby jimargarcia » Fri Jan 04, 2013 3:04 pm

Kofax Capture 10.0.2.0.0.4554
VRS/ImgCtls 5.00.943
Windows XP Pro SP3
HP Scanjet N8460

I get the following error messages when I try to reserve the scanner:
img1.png
(4.96 KiB) Downloaded 983 times

img2.png
(6.97 KiB) Downloaded 761 times

I'm able to successfully scan using the HP Scan utility and also when I select a source that does not use SVRS, so I'm pretty sure it's isolated to VRS.

I tried deleting all my sources and recreating them. It worked once, but the problem popped up again and recreating the sources didn't work.

And yes, I tried rebooting.

Anyone have any good ideas on how to take this further?

Thanks,
Jimar

This error almost always happens if file access rights are not properly set or if files are corrupted. Are you running the application with a local administrator? If not try to do so. If it solves the problem, then you have file access rights issues. If it doesn't, then try re-applying VRS.

Thanks Daniel. I am a local admin so maybe VRS got corrupted. I'm leaning toward the latter since I was able to successfully scan using VRS earlier in the day and maybe something strange happened while I was testing.

As for error message #2, make sure you have the right scanner selected in VRS. If you get it wrong, it's going to look for the wrong scanner. "Close" doesn't count. It could also happen if the needed ISIS driver isn't there.

The error message is a generic "I can't see that scanner".

Hi!

Also check/replace the usb cable. It may be damaged. I had this once and got VERY strange error messages in apps I was using... Cable was between the table and wall and was compressed little bit too much (visually it was ok).
